What this tool does
Draws one line of text on your pictures — a caption, a credit, a copyright line — in one of nine positions, several images at once. The size follows each picture rather than being the same everywhere: a fixed 24px is a banner on a thumbnail and a whisper on a photo, so unless you say otherwise the text is a share of each image's shorter side.
This is not protection
If you are marking photos to stop someone using them: this will not do that, and neither will any other tool of its kind. The text becomes pixels — so nothing can strip it out as an object, which is the one advantage over a PDF watermark — but anyone can crop it off or paint over it in a minute. It is a signature and a deterrent, nothing more. We would rather say that than sell you a padlock made of paint.
The font is your computer's
We ship no typeface, so the text is drawn with the sans-serif installed on the machine doing the work — which means the same file rendered on another computer can look slightly different. That is the honest cost of not downloading a font behind your back. A JPEG also pays a little quality for the mark, because drawing means decoding and encoding again; the result says so, per file. As always, the page is static and keeps working offline, verified by our automated tests on every release.
